Swimmers eager to take a dip at Peterborough’s Lido can now book online to make a splash this Easter.
The much-loved outdoor pool is set to reopen on March 29 after months of closure and although it might still seem a bit nippy for some it will be heated to 26 degrees!
The team from Vivacity who manage the Lido on behalf of Peterborough Limited are offering both lane and general swimming, with sessions varying from 1.5 to 3 hours.
Steve Luker, General Manager told ESP – “Covid has meant we have had to think carefully about the number of bathers we can allow in the pool – working within Swim England and government guidelines we have created a timetable of sessions that ensure everyone can enjoy the pools safely. Luckily the Lido is a whopping 50 metre pool, ensuring enough room for family fun and powering out lengths”.
The team’s been busy cleaning and preparing the Lido for use once again after the pandemic meant it was shut for several months. The easing of restrictions now means it can be brought back to life with the first swimmers able to take a dip over Easter.
“Preparing the venue, filling the pools and servicing plant and equipment takes around 10 weeks in total so the snow was falling and it was minus 2 when we turned the taps on! We have taken the decision to increase the pool temperature so that bathers young and old can enjoy the pool comfortably. For now, we are operating timed swimming sessions to safely manage numbers and keep our customers safe, this approach has previously worked really well at our indoor pools. A family trip to the Lido will be a must-do activity to come and enjoy over the Easter period and beyond.”
There were concerns about the long term future of Peterborough’s iconic outdoor pool and The Friends of Peterborough Lido which formed in 2016 to represent the views of Lido supporters and users are delighted to see it under new management and opening once again.
If the Lido has a special place in your heart and you’d like to join the Friends, you can contact them through their website https://friendsofpeterboroughlido.co.uk
The Lido will be open from 7.30am on weekdays ensuring early birds can start the day with an invigorating swim!
Along with individual sessions, visitors can book a two week Easter Pass, entitling them to unlimited sessions for £20 (pre-booking still required) between March 29 and April 11.
