Everyone is invited to the Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival!
They say you don't know what you've got until it's gone. This was certainly the case with Peterborough’s popular Dragon Boat Race event. Having participated annually for a good dozen or more times, I was truly gutted to see it cancelled these past two years – yes, we all know why.
The 22nd Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival, in aid of Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice, is happening this Saturday (11th June) at Peterborough Rowing Club, Thorpe Meadows, PE3 6LN. (Extra parking at Orton Mere).
It's been organised by New Wave Events and once again is supporting local charity Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice.
With more than 40 teams expected to compete over the 200m race course, chances are you're probably competing yourself or going along to support someone that is.
You may be surprised to hear that even if you're not involved in the race in any way whatsoever, there are still plenty of reasons to attend with the family.
Thousands of spectators simply choose to turn up for the wide range of live music, food stalls, activities and funfair.
There will also be a flypast and face painter on the day - ensuring a fun and memorable experience for all.
It's exciting to watch the many Dragon Boat teams power their way along the rowing lake to the beat of a drum with races every few minutes.
Having attended numerous times, I can assure you that the atmosphere is fantastic. It even looks as though there was enough money left in the budget for beautiful sunshine (apologies, such a dad comment!).
As the proud Media Partner for this fantastic event, The ESP Motley Crew will be racing too so come and give us a cheer - I think we'll need your support.
Alicja Mierzejewska, the Event Manager New Wave Events, adds, “This year's Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival promises to be another fantastic event and we hope we can raise as much as possible for Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice.
"We are incredibly grateful for everyone’s support this year and we hope everyone has a fantastic day out. There will be plenty to do and see on the day, so bring your family and friends!”
