The East of England Arena and Events Centre is the latest venue in the city to receive a vital cash boost from the government.
The events venue has received an award of £300,000 as part of the Government’s £1.57 billion Culture Recovery Fund (CRF) to help face the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic and to ensure it has a sustainable future.
Venue director, Jason Lunn said – “This really is a lifeline for us with our business reduced by well over 95% and the majority of our events at this point prevented from taking place. This allows us to keep the lights on and prepare for reopening in full next year. I know that the shows and entertainment we put on throughout the year are being sorely missed by audiences around the region, and the end of this pandemic cannot come soon enough.”
The East of England Arena and Events Centre (EEAEC) is a large, multi-purpose venue with indoor and outdoor event space which usually stages dozens of exhibitions, trade fairs, large scale conferences and music events as well as many outdoor sporting events, festivals and shows. Although a few events have been able to take place at the centre most of its usual scheduled events have had to be shelved over the last few months.
Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden said – “This is more vital funding to protect cultural gems across the country, save jobs and prepare the arts to bounce back. Through Arts Council England we are delivering the biggest ever investment in the arts in record time. Hundreds of millions of pounds are already making their way to thousands of organisations. These awards build on our commitment to be here for culture in every part of the country.”
A fireworks display at the EEAEC will be taking place on Saturday November 7 with a large scale display to music.
