ESP’s Health and Beauty columnist Emily Rawlinson brings you all her top tips for staying healthy, looking and feeling good…

Time for a Makeup Organisation and Declutter

I’m sure a lot of you have already had a massive clear out and organisation/cleaning spree during lockdown but if you are yet to sort out your makeup then these tips may help you out.

  1. Makeup has an expiry date.  As mentioned in my last post relating to suncream, most, if not all hair and beauty products have an expiry date which will be displayed in months. Eye products such as mascara, eyeliner and eye creams tend to have a short expiry of three months from opening, this is due to the fact that these products are used around your eye area which is more sensitive. If you find that a product you know and love doesn’t seem to be working as well as before, it may be because it’s now past its best. Take a look through all of your makeup products and check these expiry dates to know which products may not be good to put on your skin anymore.

  1. Clean your makeup products and brushes. To clean your makeup items such as eyeshadow palettes and foundation bottles, I just use a biodegradable makeup wipe to get rid of any excess product. For your personal makeup brushes, using something like your face cleanser is good but I personally love using the Real Techniques brush cleansing gel which I purchased from Boots a while ago, it is really effective and a little goes a long way.

  1. Split your makeup products into two sections. Admittedly, I have a lot of makeup so for me this is four sections. In makeup bags I have my everyday makeup which I would usually wear for work and I then have another makeup bag which has new products in that I want to try and products that I like to wear once or twice a week, for example, different lipstick and blush colours. My other two sections I have makeup cases for; one is for all of my larger eyeshadow palettes, setting spray, lashes, more expensive products that I like to use on rare occasions and my spare, unopened products. The last case is for my special effects makeup. By doing this it makes it easy to find everything you need in the morning and if like me you travel sometimes for work, I know that I just need to pack my everyday makeup bag after I’ve done my makeup that morning and it’s all ready to go.

Superdrug Reveals DIY Beauty Facts & Figures

Since lockdown began Superdrug has seen a huge increase in demand for DIY hair and beauty treatments – everyone’s wanting to create the salon experience from the comfort of their own home! There’s been a 27% increase in sales for at-home hair dye kits, a 24% increase for the artificial nail category and a 62% increase in online sales for the skincare category. These figures show how important simple things such as doing your hair and nails are when it comes to helping us feel a bit more normal during these strange times.

Couch to 5K Update

I have just completed week six and am now running for a full 25 minutes which I never thought I would be able to do! This app definitely works and once you get to this position, the last few weeks are just jogging for 25 mins three times a week, then upping it to 28 mins and then 30 mins.  I would recommend this app to anyone who is looking to build their stamina in jogging, the programme has worked for me and I am so happy that I’ve done it!

Keep Positive with Bingo instead of Quiz Night

Since lockdown began I’ve been taking part in two family quiz nights a week over video call, however, after many weeks of doing this we decided to switch it up and play bingo! To set this up you need to find some bingo cards online and send them to those who are going to be playing, the cards can then be printed off to mark up. Then all you need is a bingo number generator, of course with the bingo lingo as well – you can play for one line, two lines and then a full house. We enjoyed it so much we are going to look into music bingo for next week!
