Do you regularly check the health of your breasts? October is the month when we’re all encouraged to be more breast aware. And when it comes to the latest beauty products how can you try before you buy? ESP’s Health and Beauty columnist Emily Rawlinson has the latest on Breath Cancer Awareness Month and where to buy your beauty samples before you splurge on the full size products…
This month is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. During this month multiple brands across the world create campaigns in order to highlight the importance of women (and men) to check for breast cancer, and to help raise money in aid of research and support for breast cancer patients. I’ve pulled together some information about campaigns and brands which are doing the most to use their platform in a positive way to highlight breast cancer.
The Estée Lauder Companies are big supporters and have been since their annual Breast Cancer Campaign was launched in 1992 by Evelyn H. Lauder, and the campaign unites people across the globe in its shared mission to create a breast cancer-free world.
This year, ELC UK & Ireland has conducted a new survey to understand the impact the coronavirus pandemic has had on women’s breast health with some worrying findings.
Nearly half are less likely to share their breast health concerns
One in five women have deprioritised their breast health, rising to over a quarter for those under the age of 45
A fifth of women under 45 are unlikely to visit a doctor, even if they noticed a change in their breasts
Two thirds feel more isolated and less connected
However, 84% of women want to unite to help end breast cancer
SAVE THE DATE: On Wednesday October 21 at 7pm, The Estée Lauder Companies UK & Ireland are looking to host the largest ever self-check via Zoom with special guests including their Global Ambassador Elizabeth Hurley and Dr Zoe Williams. They’re hoping that this moment brings people together with a renewed sense of unity and further encourages everyone to be breast aware.
If you are interested in joining in on this campaign, you can download the ELCs self-check leaflet and access their live self-check with this link – https://www.elcompanies.co.uk/en-GB/our-commitments/the-breast-cancer-campaign
Breast Cancer Now is a research and care charity which run many campaigns throughout the year which you can get involved in. The Wear It Pink campaign happens this year on October 23 and can be done at work, schools etc, and to take part all you have to do is sign up and you’ll receive a free fundraising pack to get you started https://www.wearitpink.org/signup
Breast Cancer Now also hold charity runs, bike rides, walks and you can also do your own fundraising such as afternoon tea, fundraising at home and taking part in Wear It Pink.
Summer Kendrick, Wear It Pink manager at Breast Cancer Now, the research and care charity, said:
“In 2017, around 570 people in Cambridgeshire were diagnosed with breast cancer. Despite decades of progress in research and care, approximately 140 people from the area sadly died from breast cancer during this period.
“The coronavirus crisis is having a devastating impact on Breast Cancer Now’s ability to deliver the progress and support that so many people affected by breast cancer rely on us for.
“We are so grateful to our incredible supporters in Peterborough who year on year take part in wear it pink with so much enthusiasm and creativity. If there was ever a time to find that pink top, grab that pink tie or dig out that pink tutu, that time is now. We hope everyone in Peterborough will join us and wear it pink on October 23 to help us continue our vital work for anyone affected by breast cancer.”
Lounge Underwear is a UK company who sell underwear which is comfortable, makes you feel good and is designed with the customer in mind.
They’ve been supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month for quite a while and regularly send emails to their subscribers about breast cancer and reminders about checking themselves and how to do it properly.
This is in collaboration with their Lounge Legends who are young women who’ve experienced unique and emotional journeys with cancer and is also in partnership with treckstock and CoppaFeel.
I think it’s important to see large companies help promote this month through their platforms to reach as wide an audience as possible. Remember you can also sign up to CoppaFeel to receive monthly reminders to check your breasts every month. If you’re not sure how to do this then check out their website for further guidance –
Try Before You Buy
If you’re a bit like me and you like to try a lot of products to find the best one for you, but don’t always want to splurge on the full-size product then check out Feelunique’s sample service where you can try samples of mid to high end products for a small fee before buying the full size. You can also try their Beauty Kit sample service which provides you with deluxe samples so you can try it out more to see if you really like it before going ahead and buying a bigger size
In my Feelunique Beauty Kit this month I chose the following products, two of which are going into a birthday hamper for one of my friends.
Clinique Superdefense SPF40
You know I have spoken about SPF and the importance of it before and I was impressed to see that this gel moisturiser had SPF 40 in it. The reason why I wanted to try it was because of the gel like texture which told me that it will be lightweight whilst still protecting my skin.
NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer
This product is by far one of the most talked about concealers in the makeup world and I have yet to try it until now! This does what it says on the tin, it’s creamy and leaves your skin with a radiant glow whilst still having enough coverage to conceal those designer bags under your eyes.
Sigma E65 Small Angle Travel Brush
The reason I chose this product was because I wanted to have some mini makeup brushes for when I’m travelling that are easy to throw in my handbag or travel case.
Clarins Super Hydrant Mouisture-Rich Body Lotion & Clarins SOS Comfort Nourishing Balm Mask
These are the two products I am putting in a gift to my friend because she loves Clarins which is another great thing about this service, you can build up over the year beauty products for stocking fillers or use them to create beauty pamper hampers for your friends and family.
