We all need a good time come January so forget the dark nights, dodgy weather and back to work blues and follow the bear round the pubs in Whittlesey!
The annual Straw Bear festival is always a good knees up and the atmosphere around the town is just great as the pubs are packed and the streets lined with entertainment.
On Saturday January 12 the main event starts with a procession from the Manor Leisure Centre at 10.30am along Market Street via the Market Place. This is followed by a full day of dancing around the town by the invited dance sides and finishes with a finale back on the Market Place at 3pm.
Prior to that thought there’s a concert on Friday January 11 at the Ivy Leaf Club including music from the Candle Thieves, Bram Taylor and Pam Ward and Paul Cherrington. Adfter the Straw Bear has made is waya round the town on the Saturday there’s a Barn Dance at Sir Harry Smith Community College or you can opt for the Cajun Dance at Park Lane Primary – tickets for these are £9 on 01733 204055 but usually sell out fast. The ‘Bear’ is burned at Sir Harry Smith Community College between 12.30 and 2pm on the Sunday.
