FOOD REVIEW: XOXO GRILL HOUSE PETERBOROUGH

ESP's food writer, Kelly Jackson, tries XOXO Grill House in Peterborough city centre..

While searching for a new place to enjoy a bite to eat and a catch-up with friends, I stumbled across XOXO online. It’s discreetly hidden down a side street in Peterborough’s King’s Street.

The menu doesn’t offer alcohol, but that doesn’t matter at all when the food is so outstanding. There’s lots to choose from so we spent what felt like ages perusing the menu.

In the end, I opted for the chicken skewers – consisting of cubes of chicken breast marinated in herbs and spices which gave it lots of flavour, served with rice and salad.

I was going to give dessert a miss until I saw a chocolate orange cake on the menu – and I’m very glad I tried it as it was extremely tasty, served up warm with vanilla ice cream and fresh strawberries.

The lack of alcohol on the menu wasn’t an issue for my group, but if you do like a tipple with your dinner, then XOXO grill house probably isn’t for you. Instead, we made the most of the fruity mocktails, including Summer Breeze and Virgin Colada.

Although we ordered from the main menu, XOXO also has a lunch menu which is available from 12 noon – 5pm, Monday to Saturday. Children are also catered for; the children’s menu includes favourites such as burgers, chicken strips and fish fingers.

The grill house prides itself on the quality of its food, all of which is cooked fresh to order. This means waiting times can be longer during busy periods, but it’s definitely worth it when you try the fresh and sumptuous food.

It’s somewhere I’d certainly revisit, especially if I’m driving as I won’t be missing out on the alcohol with my party.
