FREE PET CARE SUMMER WORKSHOPS

Woodgreen is hosting free summer holiday workshops to educate and support children about responsible pet ownership.

Young pet owners of the future can join a series of free interactive workshops including two in Peterborough this summer to empower them to explore what makes animals happy and healthy.

Aimed at children aged five to 11 years, the in-person community workshops are being run by Woodgreen Pets Charity to champion responsible pet ownership in a fun and hands-on way. The events are taking place in key locations in Peterborough, Cambridge, Huntingdon and Littleport in July and August.

Alongside understanding the basics of pet care, children and their parents will explore simple things they can do to make pets feel safe and happy. They’ll also be able to get creative by using low-cost items and repurposing common household items to help support pets.

Anna Cowling, education specialist at Woodgreen Pets Charity, said: “More than 60% of pet owners haven’t heard of the five welfare needs that all pets need to be happy and healthy, and we’d love to help change that. By educating children about pets from a young age, we can empower them to dive a bit deeper into what makes a pet happy, what they themselves can do to support this, and to become a champion for pets.”

Woodgreen’s series of ‘Dog Champions’ workshops are being held at Bretton in Peterborough on August 8 as well as Littleport on July 30, Huntingdon on August 7 and Arbury in Cambridge on August 14. During the hour and a half session, families will discover everything canine, from how to make feeding time fun to having a go at dog training.

The charity is also running ‘Cat Champions’ workshops in Orton in Peterborough on August 16 and King's Hedges in Cambridge on August 21. Young cat lovers will get clued up on how to help feline companions live their best life, getting hands-on to create a cat-friendly home and garden.

All children attending the workshops must be accompanied by an adult. They will receive a certificate and a goody bag to take away.

Booking is essential as spaces are limited. The workshops usually cost £10 per family, but Woodgreen is offering all the workshops for free during the school summer holidays.
