GET CREATIVE WITH VIVACITY’S YOUNG, GIFTED AND TALENTED CAMPAIGN!

Vivacity Arts and Culture in Peterborough are running a wonderful campaign to encourage budding artists (that’s you) to put pen to paper, get creative, with the chance to win £150 and see your their exhibited in Peterborough’s City Gallery.

Young, Gifted and Talented 2015 (YGT) is an art competition open to everyone in the Peterborough region aged between 14 and 22 years and the prizes on offer will not only see you have a little extra cash in your pocket, but also the satisfaction of seeing your work showcased to the public.

Michaela D’Agati who is an Arts Intern at Vivacity Arts and Culture told ESP: “I’m really excited to be working on YGT 2015 as it’s offering a unique public facing platform for young, local artists.”

YGT 2015 is a great opportunity for artists to gain valuable experience and Michaela knows just how important that is.

She tells me: “My paid internship with Vivacity has helped develop my professionalism with experience that is so valuable for creative-based careers.

“It’s fantastic that a competition like YGT offers budding artists a similar opportunity.”

YGT 2015 is to be judged by renowned artist, Katherine Wood who is the founding director of the original FirstSite, a network which helps to connect artists and audiences. Joining Katherine will be the popular and talented Peterborough artist, Tony Nero.

So what can you submit? Okay it’s fairly straightforward. Each artist is able to submit up to three pieces of work, entries will be accepted in forms of painting, drawing, photography, prints, sculpture and applied arts. Installation and performance art will also be considered, but will depend on the available gallery space. All work must have been completed in the last two years and they can’t accept proposals for incomplete work.

The prizes will be awarded to the winning artists on the preview evening event on July 23 2015 and are in the following three categories: Higher Education Award (18-22 years) A Level award (16-18 years) GCSE Award (14-16 years), and all your hard work can also go towards your studies.

As an entrant to the YGT 2015, you’re invited to join Emerge, the young creative producers’ network for Peterborough where you’ll find all things creative happening in the area. YGT 15 news and updates will be posted here, as well as many other great opportunities, such as a project alongside the gallery’s forthcoming Tate Artists’ Rooms Warhol exhibition.

So what are you waiting for? Get creative and apply and showcase the local talent our city (and surrounding area) has to offer!
