HEALTH AND BEAUTY: STEPPING IT OUT AND TREATS FOR MOTHER’S DAY

ESP’s Health and Beauty writer Emily Rawlinson is putting a spring in her step as she gears up for the clocks changing and gets ready to show mum who’s the best this Mother’s Day…

Wow how is it March already?! Spring is just around the corner and I’m so excited for warmer and lighter days. The sunny weather we’ve had recently has also made me feel so much better and excited for spring time and summer where we should also be able to see more of our friends and family. It’s also been one year since I started writing for ESP and whilst it has been during lockdown, I’ve really enjoyed writing my articles!

10k Steps Walk

Last spring I started my journey on the Couch to 5k and I really changed my hate for running into slight enjoyment. During the winter I’ve not been running, mainly because I’ve found it a lot harder to motivate myself with it being colder and generally harder in this weather and so, long walks have been a great alternative and are perfect to do with someone else in your bubble or household.

Recently myself and my partner took a long, brisk walk around Hampton Lakes which we had never been too before and I was pleasantly surprised by all the amazing views and places we could get to from the walk. I do try and go for a walk every day at lunchtime however, due to working from home and currently working part time in the evening, it’s hard to get the full 10k steps in.

Therefore I’ve set myself the challenge to make sure I do at least 10k steps every weekend and try and go somewhere that I haven’t been before. This is something that I want to continue as I feel so much more relaxed after being on a walk, not being on my phone (apart from taking photos) and just having a great time with whoever I am with.

Mother’s Day

Sunday March 14 is Mothering Sunday so I’ve put together a few ideas for gifts for that special person in your life…

The Self-Care Hamper

This gift idea is a regular occurrence in my column however you can’t go wrong with a hamper full of someone’s favourite things or pamper items for them to take a night off for themselves and you can pick it all up in your local supermarket!

A double date for the salon’s reopening…

Now that there is an indication when salons can reopen, why not support local businesses and purchase a gift voucher for a treatment or two and you could even treat yourself and go together!

The Glam Shack Co

Check out this instagramable salon which is perfect for a mini photoshoot after a treatment! Whether it’s hair, lashes, brows, nails or makeup, The Glam Shack Co will be sure to make you feel glamorous from start to finish. Missing bottomless brunch? They also do bottomless blowdrys! Kiss & Makeup

A relaxing pamper day for two… have a look at their Mum & Me sessions where you can book a makeup lesson, facials or massage for two! Instagram: @kiss_and_makeup_uk

A Casserole Dish?

Yes, that is exactly what my mum has asked for after I told her I needed a good idea. Random, I know but if it’s what she wants, it’s what she’ll get. If there is something specific that they want but won’t treat themselves then you can surprise them with that.

A Home Cooked Meal

If you are able to see your special person then why not cook them a meal at home? Set up your table and cook them their favourite three course meal and just spend some quality time together. And if you’re no chef, then again support local and order a takeaway and then no one has to cook!

I hope the weather continues to stay nice but we know warmer days are coming and I am so hopeful that we will be able to celebrate more this year with our loved ones and make up for the last year.

Stay well and take care until next time.

Emily x
