We love a laugh and details of the Key’s first Comedy Festival have now been revealed…
The Key Theatre, in association with Bottle Rocket Comedy, is t hosting Peterborough’s first ever comedy festival from February 21 – 26.
The festival will be hosting plenty of well-known comedy-circuit names, including Josh Widdicombe, Zoe Lyons and the Horne Section. There’ll also be plays and family shows for all ages, including Little Howard’s Big Show, providing enough laughter to last you until Easter!
Kicking off the festival will be the brilliant Terry Alderton, described by The Sun as ‘sensational and hilarious’ and known for his loose limbs, extraordinary caricatures and stunningly accurate impressions. Most recently he reached the final of Let’s Dance for Sport Relief after dressing up as Tina Turner and dancing to Proud Mary, with his routine being described by Graham Norton as “physical poetry”.
Other big names performing at the festival include Josh Widdicombe, nominated for Best Newcomer at the 2011 Edinburgh Comedy Awards and most recently seen on Channel 4’s ‘The Last Leg with Adam Hills’, which broadcast during the Paralympics – one of our favourite programmes!
He’ll be performing a double billed show with hotly-tipped gagster Seann Walsh, star of Argumental, Mock the Week and winner of Leicester Mercury’s Comedian of the Year in 2009.
On Friday Feburary 22 The Horne Section will appear, Fringe favourites after three years of sell-out shows, and the first ever comedy jazz band to present an episode of Never Mind the Buzzcocks back in November.
There will also be stand-up from the charismatic Jarred Christmas, funny woman Zoe Lyons, surrealist Boothby Graffoe, and Northern comic Justin Moorhouse.
The Key will also be hosting some family friendly shows for all ages, firstly hosting an interactive stand-up comedy show for kids (and their keepers!). International children’s comic Ian Billings will be both performing and hosting a workshop, ideal for any mini Michael McIntyres out there to see if they have what it takes to become a comedian.
The nation’s favourite human-cartoon double act Little Howard’s Big Show will also be returning to Key after their last show in 2009. With three smash hit series of their acclaimed BBC One show ‘Little Howard’s Big Question’ and a performance on the Royal Variety Show back in 2007 under their belts, their brand new show promises big laughs for both kids and adults alike.
The festival is being produced in association with Bottle Rocket Comedy Club, a local promoter which organizes comedy gigs in Leicester, Peterborough, Derby and Coventry. Run by comedian Adnan Ahmed, the club won Best Promoter at the well known Dave’s Leicester Comedy Awards in 2012.
Frank Murphy, the business continuity manager of the Key Theatre told ESP – “We’re thrilled to be hosting Peterborough’s very first comedy festival, especially with the amount of big names we have performing at our theatre, and the variety the Key is offering to suit everyone’s tastes. It’s great knowing that both adults and children can attend and will have a brilliant time this February.”
