Cinderella won’t be going to the ball this year but there’s still plenty of entertainment planned at Peterborough’s Key Theatre.
The popular panto Cinderella has been postponed until next year because of the difficulties posed by the pandemic but you’re being urged to hang on to your tickets if you can.
City College Peterborough Foundation – which will take over the theatre services on behalf of Peterborough City Council after the transfer from Vivacity on September 30 – tried desperately to keep it on but sadly Covid-19 has made it too difficult.
There might not be panto at the Key Theatre but they’re promising an exciting programme of entertainment including live music, comedy, family theatre shows as well as new cinema releases. Details will follow later this autumn and will be published on the Vivacity website https://vivacity.org/.
Councillor Steve Allen, cabinet member for culture and recreation at Peterborough City Council, said: “It is with great sadness that due to Covid-19 we must announce that the spectacular pantomime for 2020, Cinderella, will be postponed until 2021.
“Due to the uncertainty of when theatres will be able to operate without social distancing and most importantly, for the safety of our audience, staff and extensive cast and crew, it has been impossible for us to mount a production of this size, spectacle and quality that our audiences deserve.”
Once the Key Theatre’s box office has re-opened all current bookings for Cinderella will be initially rebooked across to the closest equivalent performance in 2021-22. All these customers will receive new tickets together with a VIP voucher for free interval ice creams and a souvenir programme.
A spokesperson for the Key Theatre, said: “Thank you in advance for your understanding and patience as we work through the process of transferring your booking to the new equivalent dates. Christmas 2021 might seem rather far away, but we are already predicting that demand will be even higher than ever before. Therefore, we would advise you to keep your booking to avoid missing out on your first choice of seats and dates. For those of you who have not yet purchased tickets, Cinderella 2021-22 will be back on general sale shortly, we will announce on our website and social media channels when you are able to once again book tickets online.
“Our new creative team can’t wait to get Cinderella to the ball, this pantomime is going to be bigger and better than ever before, bringing together family, friends and communities for a long-awaited dose of seasonal fun, laughter and escapism.”
