There’s yet more local talent appearing on The Voice this weekend as Vanessa Hunt tries out for the blind auditions.

The 27 year-old who lives in Wisbech and works in Peterborough has performed with local soul band the Soft Tone Needles in the past and currently sings with her boyfriend in functions band The Look who perform all over the UK.

Over the last few weeks The BBC show has seen coaches Ricky Wilson, Rita Ora, Sir Tom Jones and will.i.am spin those famous red chairs to select their teams.

Peterborough twins Classical Reflection have already made it onto Team Ricky after the Kaiser Chiefs star pressed his button when he heard them sing.

Now Vanessa is hoping she can also gain one of the final remaining places and fulfil her dreams of singing stardom.

Vanessa sells cleaning products for a Peterborough company but singing has been her passion virtually since she could talk. From the age of 7 she started to sing at school assemblies and fetes and when she became a teenager she studied performing arts at the College of West Anglia in Kings Lynn. By the age of 18 she was singing in various local bands and went on to sing at a holiday park in Devon for a time.

The singer has been a big fan of The Voice from the start but told ESP she needed encouragement to give it a try – “It was my boyfriend Rich who pushed me to apply. I’m very excited but also nervous as well. It’s all a bit surreal!

“I was actually working in Peterborough the day I got the call saying I had got through to the auditions – I just went silent, I was in shock! It still feels like a dream.

“Local support has already been phenomenal – I just hope I show the real me.”

So now it’s fingers crossed to see if Vanessa makes it through to join the Classical Reflection twins, Naomi and Hannah, once the Battle Rounds begin.

Go Peterborough!

The Voice is on BBC One Saturday February 21 at 7pm – don’t miss it!
