The holidays are here and if you're worrying about keeping the kids entertained there's a whole five weeks of fun lined up at Peterborough Museum & Art Gallery.
There's a busy calendar of events planned this summer, with something for everyone to enjoy.
Laura Hancock, Heritage Engagement Manager for Peterborough Museum & Art Gallery, said: “The summer holidays offer a great opportunity for us to showcase what’s on at the museum and to provide low cost and free activities for families to get involved with, alongside exploring our collections that span over 150 million years of Peterborough’s fascinating history. Pre-booking is recommended for some of these activities, so head to our website to grab your spot!”
From July 29 to August 31, the weekly timetable of events is as follows:
· Make-a-Sword Mondays: get crafty and make a Bronze Age sword with the help of an expert sword-fighter! £15 per person.
· Trainspotter Tuesdays: make some binoculars, follow a trail and become a real trainspotter. £2.50 per child. Why not complete your visit with a look around the Peterborough Railways exhibition?
· Underwater Wednesdays: discover all about the ‘monster of the sea’ who lived right here in Peterborough, get hands-on with real fossils and meet a legendary fossil hunter. Admission charges apply to enter the Museum - £4 adults, £3.50 under 16s, under 5s free, £15 families. This activity is the perfect addition to a visit to Peterborough Cathedral’s ‘Monsters of the Sea’ exhibition.
· Tiny Tot Thursdays: messy/sensory play sessions for pre-schoolers in the mornings, followed by soft play sessions in the afternoons. Excludes 8th August when tiny tots can have fun in the pop-up role play village. £4 messy/sensory play, £5 soft play, £7.50 pop-up role play village. Accompanying adults are free.
· Free Fridays: free weekly drop-in activities:
2nd and 9th August - Recycling-themed challenge. Get inspired on a trail around some surprising examples of recycling in the Museum's displays. Then take part in an exciting challenge to help reduce, reuse and recycle!
16th August – Curious Adventures in Colour and Light. Get hands-on at activity tables exploring an artist’s response to the amazing scientific principles of colour, light and the science of seeing.
