Heavenly Desserts on Cowgate in Peterborough is a favourite haunt for anyone with a sweet tooth, but now it offers other savoury delights with the launch of bran new brunch menu. ESP reporters Mike Harris and Zoe McCarthy went along to try it out…
Zoe and I popped into Heavenly Desserts to check out their new brunch menu to compliment their already full menu of desserts.
The restaurant itself is brightly lit, open with a minimalistic feel. We were instantly welcomed and shown to our table.
From the wide section of drinks on offer we both settled for coffee, which was excellent.
To eat, Zoe opted for their signature dish ‘Shakshuka’ which is a spiced red pepper and tomato ragu, baked egg, crumbled feta with toasted garlic flatbread. The combination of spices perfectly complimented each other.
We were both very impressed, so much so that Zoe said if she wasn't in ‘polite company’ she would have licked the bowl clean.
I ordered, and greatly enjoyed, the ‘Hot Pastrami and Swiss Cheese Bagel’. A toasted seeded bagel with beef pastrami, emmental cheese and rocket with the addition of sriracha mayo to give it a subtle spicy kick.
What better than to finish off with a dessert. We shared the ‘Pistachio Crunch’. A ‘croffle’ which is a croissant rebaked in a waffle pan covered in whipped vanilla cream with a hint of lemon, topped off with crushed pistachios and a swirl of Sicilian pistachio sauce.
The outer crunch and the inner doughy texture of the croissant, coupled with the sweet vanilla and pistachios has to be tried to be believed.
It was a heavenly delight which left us both smiling for hours after. So, if they need to change their name from Heavenly Desserts - ‘Heavenly Delights’ works for us.
Brunch by Heavenly Desserts in Peterborough offers a new and exciting twist on brunch, now being served daily from 10am to 4pm. Vegan and vegetarian options are available.
