A Peterborough farm attraction is set to become even more popular as an amazing new outdoor play area is about to open as part of ambitious plans for the centre’s future.
Sacrewell near Wansford has always been an ideal day out for families and with its outdoor space it’s kept busy throughout the recent restrictions.
Now the team there are looking forward to enhancing what they offer with the launch of a new expanded and improved outdoor play area in time for the half-term ‘Scarewell’ festivities which start on Saturday October 24.
Sacrewell is part of the William Scott Abbott Trust and in line with its ethos to provide an agricultural education for all, the play area is themed around the site, with an emphasis on the 18th Century watermill and animal play, which is suitable for babies right up to teens.
General manager Lee Scowen said: “Play is such a vital part of education and we knew it was time that our outdoor play area had an upgrade, so we’ve expanded it, making it fun for children of all ages, with a few educational elements in there too.”
The new play area has been built by House 2 Home and Eibe and is more than three-times bigger than the previous offering.
Lee added: “In line with the work on the play area, we’ve been updating our animal paddocks near the Mill House to ensure there’s plenty of room for our rare breed and farm animals. I think those who have not visited us for a while are in for a treat this half-term.”
It’s all part of a number of ongoing developments at Sacrewell which should help establish it further as a top tourist attraction in the area. The mill was revamped a few years ago and a natural play area was later installed around the stream; now the new team have plenty of plans for even more exciting improvements.
The new outdoor play area will be a great addition to the centre’s Halloween activities planned over half term when it will transform into ‘Scarewell’ from on Saturday October 24 until Sunday November 1 with plenty of treats in store.
Brave children of all ages can take the Spooky Mill Walk, keeping their eyes peeled for some colourful characters along the way. Plus, youngsters can enjoy a Halloween-themed chocolate making experience with local company Stamford Heavenly Chocolates or take a chocolate kit away with them to do at home.
Children are encouraged to dress up and wear a scary costume for a fun day out with plenty of games to enjoy across the site, including hunting the Spooks in the Maze of Mystery and visiting the Witches’ Dell down by the Mill Pond.
The events are being run on a pre-booked basis only. A Scarewell Pass is given to all child admissions aged two to 12 years and includes one pumpkin per passport. A stamp will be made on each section as they visit. Prices are from £12.50 for a Scarewell Pass, £6 for an adult, £4.80 for concessions, and under twos are free. Additional Passes are just £8.
