NEW WETHERSPOON PUB NOW OPEN IN STAMFORD

There’s a new pub to try out in Stamford – The Stamford Post – in the former newspaper offices on Sheep Market.

Pub operator JD Wetherspoon has spent £1.57 million developing the outlet, managed by Ross and Zoe Cronin, with the creation of 48 new jobs.

For the 25 years prior to Wetherspoon taking over the premises, number seven Sheep Market was the offices of the Stamford Mercury, Britain’s ‘oldest continuously published newspaper’.

The Mercury moved there in 1988, not long after the First Edition of its new tabloid size. The Stamford Post was launched in 1710, but reduced in size two years later, when it was renamed the Stamford Mercury.

The new pub is open from 8am until 12 midnight Sunday to Thursday and 8am until 1am on Friday and Saturday. Food is served throughout the day, until 11pm every day.

The Stamford Post  specialises in real ales, serving a wide range of beers, including those from local and regional brewers.

Children, accompanied by an adult, are welcome in the pub until 9pm throughout the week. As a condition on the licence, both the adult and child (babies and toddlers excepted) must order a meal by 8pm, if the adult wishes to consume alcohol.

The pub is wheelchair accessible and has a specially-adapted toilet for people with disabilities.

The new-look pub features one bar, as well as a beer garden to the front of the building, off the high street, where you can smoke in a designated area.

Photos, a local history board, commissioned artwork by local artists and information boards relating to events, historical buildings and characters of the area are displayed on the walls and there’s also a wall mounted old fashioned typewriter on display.

Manager Ross Cronin said: “Myself, Zoe and our team are looking forward to welcoming customers into the pub and we are confident that it will be a great addition to the Stamford community.”
