ON THE GREEN FESTIVAL

It’s always great to see new events coming to city, and even better when it’s someone with local roots who’s behind it.

It’s not long to go now until the new On the Green Festival brings us three days of music nostalgia and family fun to the Embankment over the late bank holiday, May 24 -26.

With headliners, loads of great tribute acts and some of the best local talent, it’s going to be a party!

ESP caught up with the man behind it – Paul McAvoy – a huge lover of music who’s challenged himself to bring a new festival to Peterborough.

Originally brought up in Orton Goldhay, Paul attended St Thomas More Primary School and St John Fisher Secondary School, he found his love of entertaining, music and being on stage when he joined the local youth theatre and starred in productions at the Key Theatre.

Following his dreams he moved up north to Manchester to become a DJ and promoter.

Paul told us he has an extensive knowledge of events and live shows – “I’ve spent the last twenty years promoting and touring in the UK and Europe as a promoter in some of the UK’s most iconic venues with sellout shows at venues across the UK including: The London Palladium / O2 Brixton / Palace Theatre Manchester and O2 Academy.”

Paul says – “I’m now heading home to Peterborough with a mission to increase the city’s music life and get Peterborough back on the map creating a ‘City In Music’.”

Throughout the years Paul’s worked with lots of 90’s acts like The Vengaboys, Cascada, Five, S Club 7, The Cheeky Girls, Big Brovaz, B*witched and many more. His repertoire goes on, working on tours including Disney on Ice, Les Miserables, Dancing on Ice and The National Lottery’s Night at the Musicals Up in Manchester.

Paul told us he’s worked very closely with Manchester City Council’s major events team hosting events across the city including the security and hospitality sector for SJM Concerts looking after some of the biggest summer festivals and tours across the UK which you might have heard of like Boomtown or Camp Bestival.
