ONLINE DROP-IN SESSIONS FOR PETERBOROUGH APPRENTICESHIPS

National Apprenticeship Week is in full swing and people and local businesses have been finding out how they can earn while they learn and how to develop talent to boost productivity.

Three of the region’s further education providers have come together to promote what’s on offer locally including online drop-in sessions. Part of the collaboration includes a plan to open a city centre pop-up shop from spring through until autumn in Queensgate.

Peterborough College, Stamford College and City College Peterborough have combined resources to support city residents and businesses by showcasing the benefits of apprenticeships through a social media campaign.

It focuses on the positive impact apprenticeships have on the skills of individuals and the benefits to businesses and includes information about online drop-in sessions for people and employers interested in apprenticeships. Other posts link to case studies, myth-busting and a government incentive of up to £3,000 available to employers who take on apprentices.

Janet Bristow, Deputy Principal and Head of Service at City College Peterborough, said: “As a very successful provider of apprenticeships and recent Peterborough Apprenticeships Award winner, City College Peterborough is delighted to be partnering with Peterborough and Stamford Colleges in our joint initiative to support the people and businesses of Peterborough.

“As well as delivering apprenticeships locally to the city’s businesses for many years, the college has personally invested in them, both for new employees as well as our existing workforce. We know first-hand the benefits they bring to individuals as well as to our own organisation.”

National Apprenticeship Week underlines the benefits of apprenticeships and how people can earn while they learn, gaining valuable skills and knowledge in a specific job role and in a real work environment.

Apprenticeships also benefit employers by boosting the skills of their workforce, as well as improving motivation, employee satisfaction and productivity. Nationally, employers who have an established apprenticeship programme reported productivity in their workplace had improved by 76 per cent (source: www.gov.uk).

Executive Director for Business Development at Peterborough and Stamford College Alison Fox said: “Working and studying at the same time is a great career move, whatever your age. Being able to earn money, achieve a qualification and gain invaluable work and industry experience is what apprenticeships are about.

“We are always looking for more local employers to work with us, to engage with apprenticeships for new and existing staff, to support their business growth strategy and success planning to future-proof the skill-set of their business. Apprenticeships provide a fantastic opportunity for both employers and students.”
