You can reach for the stars or take a trip back in time this Half Term at Peterborough Cathedral.
Family entertainment lined up includes your last chance to walk on the moon as the lunar landscape exhibition draws to a close while the incredible Star Dome inflatable planetarium will have you looking up instead.
Parachuting teddy bears, space exploration and a Tudor tour with Mistress Scarlett are all part of an exciting October half term at the Cathedral.
In the week beginning October 25 there’s a wide range of fun-filled activities planned, including the famous teddy bear parachute drop. This is also the last week to see the lunar artwork, One Small Step by sculptor Peter Walker, which recreates the lunar surface using NASA imagery.
The teddy jumps form part of a 90-minute children’s activity session, One Giant Leap, which includes astronaut training games and crafts. There’s a teddy to take home for each child who’s booked in.
You can kick-start half-term on Saturday October 23 though, with a taste of history and a tour with a costumed guide (suitable for all ages) as ‘Mistress Scarlett’, wife of the Cathedral’s famous Tudor gravedigger Old Scarlett, tells you what happened at the Cathedral during her lifetime.
The National Space Centre in Leicester brings its amazing Star Dome inflatable planetarium into the building on Thursday October 28, to give tours of the night sky, pointing out stars and constellations. The event, last held in the Cathedral during the exhibition of Tim Peake's Soyuz Spacecraft in 2018, will require advance booking for one of the seven presentations throughout the day.
The space theme continues from October 25 to 28 with supervised activities and drop-in demonstrations from the Cambridge Science Centre. There will also be some unsupervised activities available on Tuesday October 26 and Wednesday October 27.
Throughout half term the pop-up shop near to the One Small Step artwork will be offering many of its space-themed toys and games at 20% off their usual prices. It’s a great place for pocket money treats!
