The countdown to Christmas has now officially started in Peterborough with both the city centre and Queensgate shopping centre lights being turned on.
A new set of lights illuminating Cathedral Square, Bridge Street and Long Causeway were switched on by Father Christmas at a big family event in the Square on Friday November 19.

A stage show hosted by PCRfm breakfast host Kev Lawrence saw stars from the city's pantomimes at The Cresset and New Theatre, local singers, the Cathedral choir and entertainers all build up the excitement to the countdown in front of a big crowd.

The city's now looking really festive after dark and it's hoped it will attract more people into Peterborough and encourage us to shop locally over the coming weeks to support the local economy.

The lights have been funded by Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority to help the city build back better following Covid-19. This year's switch-on was supported by City Fibre, Princebuild and Vodafone.
