There was a rainbow over Peterborough on Saturday – and we’re not talking about the rain!
Hundreds of people joined this year’s Peterborough Pride parade and made their way through the city celebrating in bright rainbow colours.
Our ESP Paparazzi photographer Mike Harris was there to capture everyone having a great time and you can view all the images from the event over on our Facebook page.
Around 800 people joined the party setting off from the Key Theatre and weaving their way through the centre to finally gather for entertainment in Cathedral Square.
The annual free event is dedicated to the LGBTQIA+ community in Peterborough and campaigns for a better city that recognises and celebrates difference.
The party spirit continued into the evening with many heading to the Queen's Head pub and Charters bar in Peterborough to make the most of the day.
Peterborough Pride spokesman Simon Green told ESP that after the parade event was postponed last year, this one certainly made up for it - “Four years working up to this point and perhaps, Peterborough changed just a little bit for the better on Saturday. I really hope everyone had a good time and enjoyed it as much as we did."
Simon added - “For me, raising the rainbow flag above the cathedral was a moment but the day was made extra special by seeing so many people just having a great time and supporting each other."
Simon was delighted with all the support - “Thank you to everyone who helped on the day and massive congratulations to the very special people who worked tirelessly to make it all happen. Happy Peterborough Pride 2021.”
