PETERBOROUGH SPORTS CAMP FOR KIDS RETURNS FOR OCTOBER HALF TERM

A summer sports camp which kept Peterborough kids active despite Coronavirus restrictions is to be repeated again for October half term.

The Youth Dreams Project were able to continue delivering their Summer Sports Camps, including 100 free places for disadvantaged children, at a critical time for their mental health and wellbeing.

YDP put a Covid-friendly plan together, introducing small ‘bubble’ activities, staggered drop offs, hand sanitising stations and extremely high hygiene standards. The majority of children hadn’t set foot in a school for over 4 months, so it was a welcome return to some kind of ‘normal’ for them.

As a result of YDPs dedication to continue to support the young people of Peterborough, they attracted over 2,500 children across the 7 weeks at 9 different schools.

Caroline, one of the parents said: “My son attended the YDP Summer camp.  He had an amazing time and just didn’t want it to end. It has massively helped his confidence, mental health (especially after lockdown), his ability to interact with others and his fitness levels. YDP do an amazing job.”

This year, they were able to offer something new to the camps and joined forces with Living Sport to fund 100 free spaces to children including a free lunch from local sandwich bar Swivels.  Supporting vulnerable and underprivileged children is at the very core of YDPs values so providing this opportunity was very rewarding for the team.  Parents and guardians were thankful for the project, allowing their child to receive a meal whilst keeping them active.

YDP will be delivering October Half Term camps with increased hygiene procedures, for details visit http://www.youthdreamsproject.co.uk/ydp-projects/half-term-club/

They’re also launching a brand new programme – YDP Dance – held at St John Fisher School every Friday after school. Please email luke.kennedy@youthdreamsproject.co.uk  for further info.
