Back in the early 80s when we were sporting big hair and leg warmers Peterborough underwent its biggest change in years with the opening of Queensgate Shopping Centre transforming the city centre and our shopping habits.

This year the centre is celebrating its 40th anniversary and to mark the occasion they’re looking for your photos to add to a gallery that’s bound to bring back
some memories and nostalgia from the past four decades.
Since it opened way back in March 1982, Queensgate has been the venue for not just shopping but meeting your mates, first dates and first jobs as well as everything from Christmas lights switch on events to fashions shows, art installations to memorials and not forgetting the occasional celebrity visit.
You may remember as a teenager sitting outside Virgin Records clutching the latest LP in a shiny bag or enjoying a cola float upstairs in the Reflections coffee shop overlooking the shoppers below!
A gallery of memories, photographs, brochures and videos from the past 40 years are going to be put on display in the centre to mark each decade, and Queensgate are asking us all to be a part of it.
The centre is appealing to people to come forward and share their memories and photographs from within or outside Queensgate, to form part of the display.
“This is a particularly exciting year for Queensgate as we celebrate 40 years of service to Peterborough,” said Mark Broadhead, Centre Director at Queensgate. He adds: “We know that the centre forms part of many special memories and moments in people’s lives over the past forty years. We’d be delighted for people to share these with us and help create a display for all generations of visitors to enjoy.”
If you have a photo or video that features Queensgate and you would like to submit it to be considered for the display, just email management@queensgatecm.co.uk or post to: Queensgate Shopping Centre Management, Long Causeway, Peterborough PE1 1NT (original copies cannot be returned).
We’ll keep you posted on the events and activities to celebrate the 40th anniversary, including the opening date of the gallery which will be announced in the coming weeks.
