RAILWAY 200 CELEBRATIONS AT NENE VALLEY RAILWAY

Peterborough’s Nene Valley Railway is marking Railway 200, the national celebration of 200 years of the modern railway, with a special series of events.

As part of their Best of British series they're kicking things off in a big way with famous British locomotive, The Flying Scotsman, immediately followed by 70000 Britannia.

The Flying Scotsman will be running for three weekends, February 22 and 23, March 1 and 2 and then March 8 and 9 where passengers will have the opportunity to ride behind the celebrated locomotive.  It’s the first time the locomotive has hauled passenger trains since 2023.

It has been tough for NVR since COVID, with their Back on Track appeal to raise £300,000 still ongoing, with a current total sitting at just over £80,000. It’s hoped this major event will help bring in much needed funds.

In addition to passenger trains, The Flying Scotsman will be hauling at least one evening Fish & Chip Train, with possibly more dates to be added as well as a photographic charter, and static visits to the footplate and to walk through the famous corridor tender.

Immediately following the visit by The Flying Scotsman, they will welcome 70000 Britannia, which will be running passenger trains on March 15 and 16, with all day Rover tickets available.  There will be driver experiences, a photo charter and a popular Jolly Fisherman evening fish and chip train.

Railway 200 is a huge celebration and there will be additional events throughout the year with September 13 and 14 already earmarked for a gala featuring their resident locomotives as well as an as yet unannounced visiting steam engine.
