The fantastic Stamford Georgian Festival returns this weekend packed with entertainment on both Saturday and Sunday, September 28/29.
There is so much happening throughout the town including a host of entertainment on the Meadows and a themed festival market on Broad Street which will host around 75 traders over the weekend, with a variety of caterers, including vegan street food.
One of the highlights will be the free family friendly spectacular on Saturday night which promises another unmissable evening on the streets of Stamford.
The Stamford Georgian Festival ‘Age of Wonder’ animated historical fantasy – including a projection onto medieval Browne’s Hospital – will be the finale of an action-packed day, with talks, tours, exhibitions, street markets and a programme of activity on The Meadows.
Celebrating the Georgians’ fascination with invention, spectacle and wonder, Saturday evening’s specially commissioned Age of Wonder tells the story of Millicent Stanley.
In the hustle and bustle of Georgian Stamford, dreaming of inventing something spectacular, Millicent lives in the shadow of her renowned, and slightly bonkers, eccentric inventor father.
Inspired by her times, her imagination soars when famed balloonist Charles Green comes to Stamford and Millicent’s dreams of becoming an inventor take flight in this animated historical fantasy, set to transform the front of Browne’s Hospital.
The first part of the evening is a lantern parade gathering on St Mary’s Street at 6.30, with entertainment in St George’s Square and some circus surprises.
Some 500 internally-lit lanterns are expected to take to the streets, created at workshops by artists Nadya Monfrinoli and Louise Jones.
The parade moves off at 7pm, arriving on Broad Street at 7.15 for live music and further entertainment, with the Age of Wonder performance starting at 7.30pm, finishing at 8pm.

Stamford’s beautiful riverside Meadows will be alive with action over the weekend (28/29 September), with period traders, highwaymen, a fairground, pony rides, military re-enactors and food and drink.
