Buy one you will? Fancy having original artworks of Yoda or Darth Vader on your walls? Peterborough Cathedral is auctioning two unique pieces of art to raise money for charity.
During the recent run of the Unofficial Galaxies exhibition at the Cathedral, an Art Wars event was staged pitting Peterborough artists Nathan Murdoch and Tony Nero against each other to create two amazing artworks – one in Nathan’s chosen weapon of choice, the spray can, and the other by Tony using his paintbrush.
The event on the Cathedral Green produced two incredible super-sized Star Wars paintings, each 1m x 1.3m in size.
Peterborough Cathedral is now making these pieces available for auction with proceeds going to Nathan and Tony’s chosen local charity, Young Persons Counselling Service.
YPCS is a child and adolescent counselling/mental health charity providing free counselling to children aged 11-18yrs, operating from three nearby locations, Yaxley, Whittlesey and Ramsey. They are the only local charity which provides only 1:1 support with a qualified counsellor for 12 sessions free of charge. They are also currently based in some local Peterborough schools.
The Cathedral will receive 10% of the highest bid to help towards sustaining this beautiful building.
Marketing Director, Paul Stainton said -“These are incredible pieces of unique art deserve pride of place in somebody's home, office or gallery. It is incredibly generous of Nathan and Tony to donate the proceeds of their work to such an important local charity and we at the Cathedral are only too happy to be a part of this.”
If you would like to bid for one of these amazing pieces, please email your confidential offer alongside name, address, contact, name of painting (‘Yoda’ or ‘Darth’) and your bid in whole pounds to Marketing Director, Paul Stainton at headofcomms@peterborough-cathedral.org.uk using the subject line ‘Art Wars Bid’. Deadline for bids is midnight Thursday September 28.
Paul will then collate all the bids and reveal the winners of the auction on Friday September 29. Winners will of course receive appropriate publicity via all of their social media platforms.
