The Starlight Hike for Sue Ryder, supported by ESP Magazine, has raised laods of dosh for Thorpe Hall!
Some came in fancy dress. Some came after months of training. Some came with friends. Some came to remember a loved one. But everyone who tackled this year’s Starlight Hike had something in common – they wanted to raise money for Thorpe Hall Hospice.
This year’s event was particularly important as it took place just at the start of the two year appeal to raise the £6 million needed to build a new state-of-the-art hospice at Thorpe Hall.
Walkers took a minute to remember those they’ve known and lost, many of whom were cared for at the hospice, before stepping out from the Greyhound Stadium to start the 10 kilometre route.
As the sun set, the walkers headed out towards Longthorpe with the march up the drive of Thorpe Hall marking the half way point.
The first walkers made it back to the Greyhound Stadium for bacon butties in less than two hours. But even those who arrived later received the same rapturous welcome from Thorpe Hall staff, volunteers, supporters, family and friends.
Regional fundraiser Alison Toomey told ESP – “We were delighted to see so many people turn out on the night to support the Starlight Hike. As ever, it was a very emotional evening with so many people opening their hearts and sharing their reasons for taking part. But it was also really good fun – the marshalls were fantastic, cheering every single walker along and the atmosphere as people walked was buzzing.”
ESP was there to capture the action and there’ll be more photos in the July issue out on June 26 as well as more pictures on this site so if you were there see if you can spot yourself!
ESP Magazine is pleased to support the 60th anniversary hospice appeal so if you’re raising money for Thorpe Hall, let us know and we’ll give you a mention!
