This December, you and the family (including the pet dog) are encouraged to take part in a unique charity walk in Peterborough on behalf of Mencap.
Everything Mencap does is about valuing and supporting people with a learning disability, and their families and carers. Their vision is a world where people with a learning disability are valued equally, listened to and included.
To help see Mencap’s vision become a reality we’re all being asked to get in the Christmas spirit and join in A Walk to the North Pole. The 5k scenic walk will be starting and finishing at Ferry Meadows Watersports Centre & Café on Sunday December 16. You’re encouraged to arrive at 10.30am to register and enjoy the pre-walk entertainment – including free face painting. The walk itself will begin at 11am.
What makes A Walk to the North Pole unique is that Santa will be waiting at the finish line to give each and every one of you a gift.
The walk is £5 per person, which includes not only a gift but either a gingerbread latte or hot chocolate with marshmallows at the Watersports Centre & Café.
It’s an event that the whole family can enjoy and the more people that take part in the walk, the more of a difference Mencap can make. The services they provide range from round-the-clock care to helping someone join in with local leisure activities, providing advice and information on things like employment and education, helping someone to live independently for the first time, and even things like reporting a crime to the police. In a nutshell, they try to help in any area of a person’s life where they need support.
