THAT’S CHRISTMAS ALL WRAPPED UP AT QUEENSGATE

The Christmas spirit at Queensgate Shopping Centre brought extra joy to young people in need in the region as the YMCA Cambridgeshire & Peterborough received a record number of donations for its gift-wrapping service.

A total of £5920.32 was donated by the kind-hearted people of Peterborough, giving even more generously than the year before, which raised a fantastic total of £4420.

In total, over 70 volunteers contributed over 300 hours of their time to the wrapping service, which saw approximately 1000 metres of gift wrap used and 600 metres of sticky tape to wrap 1000s of presents.

Mark Broadhead, Centre Director at Queensgate Shopping Centre said: “I’m absolutely delighted for the YMCA and thankful to the people of Peterborough and those visiting for giving so selflessly at Christmas. This amount of money will make a great difference to many people’s lives, especially at this unforgiving cold time of the year.”

Jonathan Martin, CEO at YMCA Cambridgeshire & Peterborough commented: “The shoppers at Queensgate have been so generous over the festive season. Young people can struggle to cope when they became homeless through no fault of their own and these amazing donations mean that we are able to support them to get back on their feet and into independent housing. Thank you to everyone who contributed during December.”

He continued: “While this amazing donation will help, there are still many young people out there who are, or will soon become homeless. Whatever the cause, the result is the same – they become homeless and the YMCA aims to be there for anyone who needs our support.”

Other organisations and individuals that supported the YMCA with Christmas wrapping this year included: Miss Catwalk Perfect UK, BGL, Miss Galaxy Rutland, Peterborough Royals, Peterborough Rugby Club and Newborough Women’s Institute.
