Peterborough Museum and Art Gallery is the final venue for a popular touring exhibition which sees local unique Bronze Age finds from Flag Fen, Must Farm and Ely join national treasures.
Following on from the success of the Hoards: a hidden history of ancient Britain display at the British Museum in 2016 Vivacity has provided the final venue to showcase this amazing collection of finds.
This British Museum and Salisbury Museum Partnership Exhibition includes prehistoric, Roman, and early medieval hoards, and is on show here from October 12 having visited museums across the UK.
People have been placing metalwork and valuable objects in the ground and in water since the Bronze Age (c. 2200–800 BC). The exhibition looks at the varied and changing explanations for why they were buried and why they weren’t retrieved.
Vivacity has also worked with local partners at Museum of Archaeology & Anthropology Cambridge, Ely Museum and Cambridge Archaeological Unit to add regional interest to this exhibition. There’s the chance to see unique Bronze Age finds from Flag Fen, Must Farm and Ely including the spectacular Iron Age Snettisham gold torcs and Roman coins from Water Newton.

This is the most recent in a number of high-profile exhibitions that we have planned with national museums and is a great opportunity for Peterborough audiences to see incredible objects on their doorstep.”
