ESP’s Mikey Clarke speaks to Warwick Davis about his new Theatre Company, looking back on his travels with Karl Pilkington, and looking forward to what’s next in his career…

There’s a good chance you may have seen the local Star Wars actor on your television screen during the last few weeks.

Warwick’s been on numerous TV shows promoting The Reduced Height Theatre Company – the first theatre company made up entirely of short actors, and is the brainchild of Warwick himself.

Their first production is the popular farce See How They Run and it appears to be a runaway hit!

See How They Run is widely regarded as one of the best farces written by Philip King. Set in 1944 in a vicarage, the story revolves around Lionel Toop (Warwick Davis) and his wife Penelope with various other characters including the village busy-body, a resting actor, a lovable maid, a bishop, a military policeman and an escaped German prisoner of war.

As the action unfolds, the busy-body ends up drunk in the cupboard while the vicar is running around in his long-underwear!

Warwick is thoroughly enjoying his time in front of a live audience. I caught up with himWarwick when he visited Motorpoint in Peterborough recently to pick up a tour bus the company had kindly leant him. [youtube id=”YY6UqwFzh-Q” width=”600″ height=”350″]

With a career spanning over three decades, Warwick’s best known for his roles in Star Wars, Willow, the Harry Potter films, The Chronicles of Narnia, television’s Life’s Too Short, and (one of my favourites!) An Idiot Abroad 3. The show saw Warwick travelling around the Marco Polo route with the hilarious Karl Pilkington.

For now though, it’s all about the theatre and See How They Run is on at numerous venues through until May 10. For locations, full details and to book tickets, visit www.reducedheighttheatre.co.uk.
