WIMBLEDON FINALS TO BE SCREENED IN CITY CENTRE

Tennis fans in Peterborough will ‘love’ the chance to watch the Wimbledon Finals screened live in the city centre this summer.

You’ll be able to gather ‘Henman Hill’ or ‘Murray Mound’ style in St John’s Square to watch all the thrilling action in the finals on a big screen.

It’s all thanks to Peterborough’s Business Improvement District (BID) with Peterborough Positive hosting the big screen event on July 15 and 16, from 12.30pm.

The free-to-attend, family-friendly weekend event will take place in St John’s Square, where people can see big screen action of the women’s singles final on the Saturday, followed by the men’s clash on the Sunday.

You can settle down with a picnic but local businesses will also be selling refreshments from a selection of pop-up food and drink stalls.

Strawberries and cream, ‘Wimbledon’ milkshakes, pizza slices and a selection of summer drinks will be available to purchase during the matches.

Pep Cipriano, BID Manager, said – “St John’s Square lends itself to having a big screen event where shoppers can take the weight off their feet, grab something to drink and relax on the green. For me, the Wimbledon finals and a picnic go together like strawberries and cream, which will of course be on sale during the weekend.

“We will also be providing chairs for those who prefer to be properly seated. The singles finals start at 2pm, but the screen will be on from 12.30pm both days to catch some of the other finals action before the main event. It won’t be game, set and match afterwards, as I’m hoping this will be the first of an annual big screen event in the city centre.”
