WINTER WALK AT WICKEN FEN

Wicken Fen National Nature Reserve is a wonderful day out for all the family and winter is a great time to visit.

It’s the perfect place to get out in the fresh air so why not leave the TV, games and gadgets behind for a while, get some exercise in the great outdoors and see what wonderful wildlife you can spot.

Wrap up warm and wander down to the Woodland Walk and find the Wicken Fen Festive Woodland Trail. It’s free (admission applies) and available every day throughout December and into the New Year so you can get your New Year off to a healthy start.

Wicken Fen is one of Europe's most important wetlands, and home to more than 9,000 species, including Konik ponies, Highland cattle, rare birds and plants – so there’s always something fascinating to see.

After your walk you can head to the Docky Hut Café for festive hot drinks and homemade bakes, light lunches or afternoon tea. Just like the landscape, the menu changes with the seasons.

You can also browse for souvenirs or pick up some gifts in the National Trust shop inside the Visitor Centre. There’s everything from homeware and garden tools, to useful accessories for family walks and outdoor exploring, as well as bird food, feeders and nest boxes. There's also a wide range of National Trust and wildlife books, as well as your favourite National Trust food and stationery.

Wicken Fen near Ely is around an hour away from Peterborough.
