If you’re desperate to get the kids out of the house – good news!
Work to install a new exciting play area at Ferry Meadows is set to start early February. Aimed at younger children the new Otter play area will provide an engaging play space to explore and enjoy.
A meandering path will travel through the play area taking children on a journey of discovery and, with an area dedicated to water and sand play, the cradle swings, oversized slide, hollow log, clambering bridge, tree den and swinging acorn pods, there is lots to see and do. The play area will also contain established trees giving shade and weather protection as well as plenty of seating.
Andrée Davies, of landscape architects Davies White Ltd, said – “Nature is the ultimate playground and that’s exactly what we have designed here. Inspired by the local wildlife and landscape, this nature play area is inclusive and fun for all the family, especially young children and toddlers.”
Teresa Wood, Visitor Services Manager, said – “The Otter play area will be an exciting place for young children to come and explore. This is the first of a three year programme aimed at improving the play areas in Ferry Meadows. We have worked with local schools, our Nene Park volunteers and other groups to understand what our visitors want from the play provision in the Park. Things like the acorn seats are a direct result of this work.”
The existing play area, nearest to the Ferry Meadows Café, will be closed from February 3 for approximately six weeks whilst the play area is extended and the new equipment is being installed in the Otter play area. A model and artist’s impression of the new play area are available to view in the Visitor Centre at Ferry Meadows.
